MARIJKE VAN DER ZWAAG

Marijke van der Zwaag has undergone considerable training in drawing, painting and etching.

After several years of instruction in etching technique, public attention to her work grew so much that her etchings were soon found in galleries in Amsterdam and the region. At that time Marijke also began to work with oils and watercolours. Working with colours was such a fruitful experience for het that she began to combine the basic black/white etching technique with watercolours. Since then she has for many years devoted herself to this combination of techniques.

Her work has been shown in group and solo exhibitions in the Netherlands. She was the winner of the general public prize in a group echibition of the Hortus Botanicus of Amsterdam.

The style of work is mostly purely figurative, almost classical in manner. Her work is often inspired by the beauty of nature. But also her love for Amsterdam - where she lived for many years - inspired her to make many fine watercoloured etchings
