JANNY ENDSTRA

A unremitting passion

Janny Endstra-Docters van Leeuwen was born in the little village Muiderberg, near Amsterdam, but now lives in Nieuwkoop in the green heart of Holland.

Het etchingtechnique is the result of her creativity. Her line- and form pattern is for her the basis of her art. The century-old craftsmanship of the etching technique and the possibility of experiments are a great challenge to her. The colours which she is using in her prints are sometimes tender and soft, but also powerful and strong. Her art is never trendy, routine-effects do not have the ghost of a change, she is averse to dullness.

Her points of view; if its a landscape, birds, mind-thoughts, a special experience, or some basic ancient forms, it is always giving a feeling of quietness to us. She is doing what she is thinking, and feels what she has to do. Every etching is like a snapshot and gives us a special observation. It is really an interaction between her and the etching plate. Her work of art is real, she speaks the truth and does not hide it.

Janny is printing her etchings herself. It is really her own handwork and craftsmanship. This keeps her moving, without special reaching for it, she developed her own form- and print language in a unremitting passion. The result is an interaction between her own personality and our surrounding hectic world
